The Wildlife Biologist Memorial is dedicated to honoring the memory of wildlife workers that lost their lives while carrying out their jobs.
To be included on the memorial the person must have been serving as a wildlife biologist or technician that died while performing their normal duties or may have been someone that wasn’t a professional wildlife biologist or technician, but who was participating in wildlife research or management activities at the time of their death. Airplane and helicopter pilots are not included unless they were the sole occupant of the aircraft and were conducting wildlife work at the time of their death. Law enforcement officers involved in wildlife research, habitat improvement, or wildlife feeding at the time of their death are included.
Some of this information was published in “Job-related mortality of wildlife workers in the United States, 1937-2000” by Blake Sasse (2003) in the Wildlife Society Bulletin 31(4): 1015-1020.
